HUGE: Facebook Testing New “Subscribe To” User Feature

subscribe-to-icon1Facebook is in the process of testing a new feature which lets you subscribe to all the actions of a specific user. In other words, you can receive notifications anytime a specific user takes an action on Facebook. It also appears to be Facebook’s answer to Twitter’s follow feature. As a Facebook user who has seen the feature explained to us, “By subscribing you don’t miss any updates from people you subscribe to.”

PlacePop Serves Up Data From Facebook Places

Woman Sues Facebook After Being Banned From Site

Would you drive all the way from Maryland to California to try to get your Facebook account reinstated? That’s what Karen Beth Young did but apparently this wasn’t enough to impress the Facebook receptionist on duty. “Oh, people have driven farther than you, from Canada,” she was reportedly told, according to the Forbes story.

Facebook Awarded A Social Search Patent

-Facebook Search Icon-Today Facebook was awarded a patent for “ranking search results based on the frequency of clicks on the search results by members of a social network who are within a predetermined degree of separation”. The patent, which was first filed by in 2004, emphasizes that Facebook has been working on a number of algorithms to improve their search results, one of which is a tool that Google employs in their own search results: the number of clicks.

NYTimes.com Gets A Facebook Makeover

Latest In NetworkThe New York Times has completed a major integration with Facebook directly into the publication’s extremely popular homepage. The functionality appears to be similar to Facebook’s recommended articles social plugin, with users being required to opt-in to the service. The most notable aspect of this new service however is that the typically design-conscious company, has a plugin which doesn’t align with the rest of the site. I’d expect them to resolve this issue eventually though.

Facebook Gives Questions A Subtle Facelift

Facebook has apparently pushed out some much needed changes to the company’s questions product. Most significant is the addition of a new button which enables you to return back to the home area of questions, something that I’m not sure why it was missing for so long. Facebook has also redesigned the look of tags (not surprisingly more like Quora), and a cleaner overall look of the page. While the product is still in Beta, many have been wondering why there were so many bugs to start with.

Facebook Consolidates Similar Notifications

In the past, Facebook’s notifications have been a continuous stream of updates about who has commented on your posts, who has tagged you in an image, or one of many other notifications. This afternoon the company rolled out a change which consolidated many of the notifications. We haven’t seen all the changes yet, however multiple people have reached out in the past 15 minutes.
